Claremont Colleges National Debate Outreach (CCNDO) is the community service and educational outreach program of the Claremont Colleges Debate Union. The Debate Union is part of Claremont McKenna College, in Claremont, California (about 45 minutes east of Los Angeles). The Debate Union is a five-college program, serving students from Claremont McKenna College as well as students from Scripps College, Pitzer College, Harvey Mudd College, and Pomona College.
The Debate Union has conducted outreach programs in primary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges, and universities in the United States and abroad for more than a decade. CCNDO programming provides low-cost debating and speaking opportunities for many thousands of students. It is the largest and fastest-growing debate outreach program in the United States. Current programming of the CCNDO includes:
- The Middle School Public Debate Program (MSPDP), an initiative to promote class and contest debating for students in the middle grades;
- High school speech and debate promotion for more than 75 high schools building sustainable speaking and debating programs in multiple formats and events;
- The Presidential Debate Project, organizing more than 300 public and class debates on the issues and candidates of the 2004 presidential election;
- The National Parliamentary Caucus , organized to promote high school parliamentary debating in the United States;
- Each One Teach One, an initiative for colleges and universities in the United States that seeks to promote the growth of parliamentary debate in American higher education.
- The CCNDO works with many community and university partners to facilitate informed debate and discussion on the critical issues and ideas of our time.
